## Food sensitivities and acid reflux

[video transcript] One of the most common causes of acid reflux is actually something pretty simple: a food sensitivity.

Can you please provide a specific passage for me to rephrase?

Now, what is happening with acid reflux? Well, we're getting irritation. The lower esophageal sphincter, the lid on top of our stomach, kind of flaps up, and we splash a little stomach acid or get irritation that starts to irritate the nerves in that area and send it all the way up.

So we can get some symptoms like a tight chest, wheezing, coughing, needing to clear the throat. And sometimes it is as easy as a food sensitivity.

## Identifying Your Food Triggers

But how do you tell?

First, you can eliminate entire categories of food from your diet. Things such as dairy. There are also common stressors to the gut that cause acid reflux, like tomatoes and mints, and things like that.

But how do you know specifically? Well, you can run a blood test. We do a food sensitivity test. It tests what's sensitive to the immune system inside the gut and also what the immune system has seen before and reacted to. And we get those things and eliminate them temporarily. The gut's able to heal back up, and you can start to put those foods back in your diet with a strong gut.

## Beyond Symptom Chasing: The Root Cause

Acid reflux can be frustrating, but it's even more frustrating when you chase the symptoms with drugs and you're on those drugs for a very long time. It can actually make the situation worse. Oftentimes, the solution is simple: it's what's at the end of the fork.
